Dirty Bow Wow – A Review & Giveaway

May 9, 2009

dirty-bow-bow When I met my husband, I was NOT a dog person. He was living with his parents at the time with his big dog (husky/shepard mix) and they had a dog (golden retriever). The first time I saw them I was freaked out at the thought of two big dogs. Over time, I grew to love both dogs – especially my husband’s dog Sammy. I would definitely say that I have become a “dog person”. We don’t have Sammy anymore, but we have a Siberian Husky named Sierra and I wouldn’t trade her for the world.

Our girls are growing up dog lovers too, so I was excited to have a chance to try out the book, Dirty Bow Wow:  A Tribute to Dogs and the Objects of Their Affection by Cheryl and Jeffrey Katz.

Dirty Bow Wow is a book featuring family pets and their favorite toys.  The pictures include big dogs, little dogs, purebreeds, and mixes.  Included are their favorite chew toys or blankets.  There are 50+ pages of these loveable creatures and their toys.

My family loved this book.  As the girls looked through it, each page they exclaimed how cute the dog was.  They were especially excited to see a picture of a “Sierra” dog (Siberrian Husky).  They got a kick out of seeing the dogs with their toys, especially the toys that were really ratty.

My husband and liked looking at this book too.  We both are animal lovers and sort of went through the pictures and deciding if each dog was a breed that we would like to have one day.

You can purchase Dirty Bow Wow directly from the publisher at Ten Speed Press, or at retailers where books are sold. It is also available on Amazon – the list price is $14.95.

This month, the Dirty Bow Wow Dog Toy Drive kicks off at bookstores across the country. By dropping off a new dog toy, you have the chance to help shelter dogs find not only the toy of their dreams, but hopefully a permanent, loving home as well. You can find a list of participating retailers at http://www.crownpublishing. com/tenspeed/2009/05/01/dirty-bow-wow-toy-drive/.

We have two Cane Corso’s (italian mastiffs) and they are sweet lovable and big. I think of all the dogs I have owned they have such great individual personalities, but both of them will bring you a toy when you get home and one smiles, litterally. It looks like baring teeth but its a smile.

Growing up, we had labs and I absolutely loved them. I alsays thought that I would have large dogs. When we moved into our first house, this little dog kept coming to the house. We found out that she was homeless, she had been abandoned when her family left. She had heartworms, and horrible skin and ear infections. We took her to the vet for treatment and ended up adopting her. We found out that she is a schnoodle. She is just the best little dog, I can not imagine our lives without her.

41 Jay F. May 14, 2009 at 11:21 pm

I’ve always had mutts or mixed breeds of some sort, so I’m not too picky. My in-laws love Wirehair Terriers, so that would be my pick for purebred.
