Working Mom of the Week – Renee Shupe

November 19, 2009

Name: Renee Shupe

Occupation: Personal Life Strategist

Describe Your Occupation: I’m a personal life strategies coach and my mission is to bring vitality, laughter, fun & confidence back into womens lives by getting them to rejuvenate, rediscover and recreate their lives!

My personal coaching practice is focused on helping women get practical focused support that helps them to make changes for the better for both themselves and those important to them!

Tell us about yourself: I consider myself a quirky redhead who always looks for the positive in life!  I met my kindred soul 7 years ago and we got married 3 years ago.  My soon to be 15 year step son lives with us, which adds an addiitional and intersesting element to the mix.  My mother has a permanent smirk on her face now as I make comments about the “denseness” of the teenager living in my house!

I have two adorable fur babies, names Tweety (she’s an Eskipoo) and Fozzie (as in Fozzie Bear, he’s a Poovanese).  We lead a busy life filled with social entertaining with friends, various household updates and projects, running two busy home based businesses, and my new discovery crochet!

Tell us what a typical day is like for you: Get up the morning, make the long commute to my home office downstairs.  Then my day is filled with marketing, client calls, teleseminars, networking, answering my husband’s techie questions when he can’t figure something out, trying to decide what’s for dinner, making dinner, some more writing, a bit of crochet, maybe some reading, if I’m lucky I find time to meditate and try to write in my journal.

Having my own quiet time is crucial for me as it allows my mind to process all of the various content received from the day.

What are some of your challenges?
Working to stay focused, especially during the summer it’s easy to get distracted with the nice weather and wanting to figure out ways to entertain the 15 year teenager at home during the summer!

How do find balance in your life? I simply plan it into my day, and make a commitment to know that it’s just as important as the rest of my life.  I tend to work better when I have a busy life as it forces me to focus and keep myself on track and and I thrive on things to do, whether that’s simply scheduling time to take a walk around the block or meditating.

It’s import to me so I make it important to my everyday focus.

What do you do to take time for yourself?
I crochet, walk, meditate, and even just simply sit, quietly on my own.  The early morning before the rest of the household wakes up is the best time of the day and my favourite too!

Do you have any advice for other working moms?
Since I’m the creator of a new online club, called LifeMakeoverClub.com I would simply say decide what is important to you in your life and make a part of you daily life.

Ensuring you have a enough focused time on yourself makes you a better support system for those around you.

Try and implement a structured schedule as it helps others in the household know what’s coming up and what needs to be done making it easier for them to help out around the house.

Do you have a favorite tool or resource that you use to help stay organized?
I love technology and tried a variety of electronic tools to try and keep me orgnanized but I keep returning to my handy small note book that I store everything in, I use a variety of adhesive pockets to store critical date, calendars and my priority checklist of to-dos.  It’s always by my side and the best thing to keep me on track, as well as giving me all of my data I need at any given time!

Where Can We Find You Online? I’m online at a variety of places but you can check me out here:
