A Million Reasons to “Believe” With Macy’s and a Giveaway

November 25, 2009

TREK_V-sending_300dpi

This year, Macy’s is adding to the spirit of “Believe” with a national Santa Tour, an honorary National Believe Day, a “Yes, Virginia” animated special, and a new TV commercial featuring Queen Latifah.

The nostalgic holiday campaign was inspired by the New York Sun’s famous “Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus” editorial from 1897 and includes letter-writing “Believe Stations” in Macy’s stores across the country.  For each letter received, Macy’s will donate $1 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, up to $1 million.  You can check out more details here.

You can also check out Macy’s on Facebook and Twitter.

One of my lucky readers has a chance to win a $25 gift card. Here’s how:

Here’s how to win:

  1. Head on over to the Macy’s Believe site .  Come back and tell me in the comments your favorite Christmas memory you have from your childhood.
  2. The contest will run until Wednesday, December 2nd at 11:59 pm central. The winner will be selected through random.org, contacted by e-mail, and listed on this post. Giveaway open to US winners only.
  3. Please leave a valid e-mail address or other way to contact you! If the winner hasn’t responded within 3 days, an alternate winner will be chosen by random.org
  4. If you’d like extra entries, you can:
  • Subscribe to my RSS feed or subscribe via e-mail – leave me a separate comment to let me know.
  • Mention this contest on your blog with a link back to this post, and leave a separate comment with the link to your post so I can find it.
  • Either Twitter about, ‘Stumble’, ‘Digg’ or ‘Kirtsy’ this post – leave me a separate comment with your username at whichever site(s) you chose (one extra entry per method).

Thanks and good luck!!

2 Kelly B November 26, 2009 at 3:14 am

My favorite childhood Christmas memory was when my family took us to Big Bear to celebrate. We lived in Southern California, and I got excited if I saw frost on the ground. Waking up to snow was absolutely the coolest experience ever!

Thanks for the chance!

I remember coming down the stairs one Christmas morning to find a big wooden dollhouse under the tree. My father had built it himself. It had a hinged roof you could open to see inside better. I still have it, but since I only have boys it is sitting in the basement waiting for a granddaughter to love it.

We spent Christmas in Florida at a hotel. The hotel had some activities for children. They threw some money into the pool and you got to keep what you could pick up. I think I came up with about 2-3 dollars in coins. I ended up purchasing a gift for a parents with that amount of money. I was about 7-8 yrs old.

Just being together with my extended family, having a lovely meal, and watching the snow are what I remember. None of us had money so we didn’t have much in the way of gifts, but it was a great chance to be with our cousins, grandparents, aunts and uncles, and make lovely memories.

My favorite Christmas memory from childhood is all the times we went for a Christmas Eve drive just to look at all the houses and their lights and decorations. It is a sort of tradition.

24 AmandaK November 26, 2009 at 12:39 pm

My favorite Christmas childhood memory is when my sister and I were about 5 and it was Christmas Eve. We had just gotten home from my grandmother’s house and were ready for bed. But before we could go to bed, we had to turn on the TV and see if Santa was headed our way on the Santa Tracker (this was the 80s). He was very close so our city so we scampered up to bed and went to sleep. I miss that Santa tracker!

My cherished memory is the feeling of Christmas eve and day when I was very young. I remember that on Christmas eve there was an overwhelming, happy anticipation of TOMORROW. I could hardly sleep that night. My brother would always wake me up early, sometimes so early my mother would make him go back to bed. When THE DAY arrived, we would fly down the stairs and behold . . . Santa had been there. Ahhhhhhhh.

One of my favorite Christmas memories was when my cousin was having everyone over for Christmas dinner. She had put the semi-frozen turkey in the garage on a high shelf to finish thawing. In the morning, she opened the garage door and the floor was littered with pieces of plastic and bones! Their BIG dog ate the raw turkey!! lol!
Happy Holidays!

64 Carol G November 27, 2009 at 10:57 am

For me, it is not one particular memory but a combination of all the trips to my grandparents’ farm and the entire extended family getting together, seeing all the cousins, marvelous food, and Grandpa always sitting in the corner quietly opening his gifts while the rest of the family went in order, youngest to oldest. He always said he would have to wait too long otherwise, since he was the oldest!

118 Tamara Hook December 1, 2009 at 5:14 pm

I remember waking up before my parents every single year. My sister and i would shake our boxes and try to guess what was in them. We had an unspoken competition about who could guess their presents the best. One year I found a very small box that was for me. I decided I would do the unthinkable and open it really quick before my parents woke up while my sister was in the bathroom. My mom was on to our little game and she had ever so cleverly wrapped up a pair of umbro shorts and stuffed them inside a box the size of a card deck! I hurried and rewrapped the present just in the nick of time. My sister was baffled when I guessed that my umbro shorts were in that small of a package. Needless to say, I won that year :)

My favorite Christmas Memory would have to be the a few years ago. We were all at my husbands grandparents for Christmas and were getting ready to go bowling. My grandpa-in-law couldn’t find his wallet. We (all 14 of us) searched the house and the trash only to find it in his night stacnd drawer. We all laughed and laughed. He was the sweetes man. He died 2 years ago, but is never forgotten.

My favorite was the year our church had a Christmas play and I got to be the angel at the nativity and my mother made me a beautiful angel outfit and halo. Thanks.

We didn’t celebrate Christmas in my house until I was 13. My favorite memory has to be the first time there were Christmas lights outside (even though it was just one strand). Now that I have a family of my own, Christmas is HUGE in my house!

I remember being so excited to bake cookies for Santa, and then check to see if he ate any on Christmas morning! One year he wrote me a note that said, “Thanks for the cookies. Love, Santa”. That made my year!

My favorite memory was of my grandma inviting “Santa” to come over, and give me my present two days early. She said that she knew him personally and that she was calling in a favor since I had been really good. I remember being shocked when Santa knocked on the door that night! He came in knowing everything about me, and I was in awe!
That was the best present ever! I found out years later that it was just a family friend. Even though I knew Santa wasn’t real, I was still bummed lol!

One of my most ‘treasured’ Christmas memories as a child is spending Christmas with my grandparents on their farm in Michigan! Born and raised in Chicago, it was always exciting to visit my grandparents farm and see the various farm animals!

My grandfather would cut down a Christmas Tree from his backyard and my siblings and I would help my grandmother decorate it while enjoying her fresh homemade eggnogg and Christmas sugar cookies!

A lot of loving memories!
