Meal Plan Monday – The Easy Edition

meal-plan-bulletin-boardI always plan our meals.  I don’t go grocery shopping without making a list and I can’t do that without planning what we are going to have for dinner.

In the summer, we did a lot of grilling.  It was nice because my husband takes care of that, so there was always little for me to do cooking-wise.  As the weather got colder, I realized that I missed cooking.  I missed comfort foods like lasagna and tater tot casserole.

As a mom that works full time outside the home 5 days a week, I come home to hungry kids and a hungry husband, so I don’t have time to cook things that take a long time.  I have tried various ways of planning my meals – crock pot recipes, easy skillet meals for during the week, and cooking the dishes that take longer on the weekends.  I am still trying to find the perfect combo of this.

This week is one of those that I don’t want to spend a ton of time in the kitchen, so I am going easy every night.  Here’s this week’s menu:

Monday -  Spaghetti, salad, and cheesy garlic toast

Tuesday – Hot beef sandwiches, veggie, chips

Wednesday – Burgers on the grill (not sure what with it)

Thursday – Thanksgiving

Friday – Dinner out

Saturday – not sure yet

Sunday – Pizza (This is our regular Sunday night dinner)

Three Day Weekends Please

clock_0I sit here on Monday morning before work and I wonder where the weekend went.  It always seems like we could just use one more day to get our long to-do list done.

My husband and I both work 5 days a week all day.  By the time we get home, have dinner, spend time with the girls, and get them to bed, there is just not much time left in the evening to get much done.  Weekends are our time to work on things around the house and get other things done.

I sit here on Monday morning and am a bit frustrated that only 2 or 3 things on my to do list for the weekend got done.  Mind you, some of that is my own fault in that I did take a little snooze on Saturday while the girls watched a movie and we went shopping yesterday instead of getting our Christmas stuff up inside the house.  Long story short, here are some tips for making your weekend more productive and enjoyable.

1.  Make a to do list.  I find that if I write it down, it’s more likely to get done.  It also is a great feeling to check something off of your list.

2.  Be realistic.  Don’t try to pack in too much so that you are more tired and frustrated.

3.  Try to get the kids involved.  Have them help clean.  Let them help cook dinner or bake.  You are spending time with them yet getting stuff done.

4. If you have errands to do, try to do them at once or at least make sure to hit all the placed in one area so you don’t have to keep driving back and forth.  Again, a list is helpful so you don’t forget.

5.  Most importantly, make sure you have some time to relax and have fun.

Some day maybe we will be able to convince employers to make the work week 4 days instead of 5, but until then, use these ideas to make the most of your weekends.

Wii Mommmies – Fitness Friday: So You Think You Can…Run??

So, I haven’t actually started using my Wii again but plan to.  I have been reading a lot about people using the EA Sports Active to train for a 5K.  I have decided I want to start running.  I know a lot of people that have lost a lot of weight and gotten in shape by doing so.

Now I am WAY out of shape and it’s now almost winter in WI, so I am not sure how I am going to pull off running.  We don’t have a treadmill and there is no way my husband will let me get one until I show that I will be running for the long haul.   This next summer we are camping all week at a state park where you take long bike rides once or twice a day, so I want to be ready.

I have a question for all those that have used the EA Sports Active to train for a run…What program do you use?  I tried to find it last night and couldn’t.  Any help on that would be appreciated.  :-)

Stay tuned here to see how my adventures in running come along.
