Name: Joyce
Occupation: Secretary
Describe Your Occupation: I work part time as a church secretary. This includes basic office duties – answering phones, typing, filing etc. along with keeping the financial records and publishing a weekly church bulletin and keeping the church website updated.
Tell us about yourself: I consider my family my true career, meeting their needs and creating a loving atmosphere for my home is where most of my time and efforts go. A husband and three sons complete my male dominated family.
Tell us what a typical day is like for you: It is a blessing to have work days and off days! Typical work day means rising at 5:30, spending time in prayer and devotional reading and a quick exercise workout. Then it’s time to wake the family, drive to school then to work. Off days are spent doing errands with the occasional trip to a consignement shop where I enjoy hunting down a bargain. Evenings are spent with sports activities or at home with the family. The aim is to be in bed early.
What are some of your challenges?
Trying to seperate work activities from home/family time. I am also involved in my church where I do church publications for them. Keeping up my personal blog and the two church websites, when I am home, I am on the computer quite a bit at home.
How do find balance in your life? Reading the Bible and uplifting devotional books helps keep my focus. Making an effort to stay calm and peaceful instead of rushed and harried helps keep things running smoothly.
What do you do to take time for yourself?
My hobbies include walking and reading. Taking a few minutes each day to walk or exercise helps keep my energy level up and is also a great stress reducer.
Do you have any advice for other working moms? Put your family first. Invest in them and spend quality time with them. Do your best at your job and maintain a steady, efficient pace through the day. Strive for excellence in everything – home and job.
Do you have a favorite tool or resource that you use to help stay organized?
I am a list writer! Lists and calendars keep me focused on what is coming up and what I need to remember.
Where Can We Find You Online? My personal blog is: www.joybright.blogspot.com
