Every summer we go camping at a couple of our beautiful state parks. This year, we tried a new park, Yellowstone Lake State Park.
We were unsure of how good this park would be and what there would be to do but I think we were all pleasantly surprised on what we found.
Beautiful Part of the State
The drive to Yellowstone Lake State Park was fabulous. There were rolling green hills and huge farms. We saw Amish farms and even went to an Amish bakery. When we would drive around anywhere, everyone was so friendly and waved at us no matter where we were. We were sort of in the middle of no where and while that sort of had us in a panic at first, by the end of the week, we didn’t mind so much.
Close to Iowa
Yellowstone Lake State Park is about 40 miles away from Iowa. We ventured there one day and the girls got to see the Mississippi River. Brian also got to get a few geocaches and even meet a fellow geocacher from Iowa.
Small Park
Yellowstone Lake State Park is a fairly small state park compared to the other parks we have camped at. In fact, during the week, the park was nearly empty. The kids loved it though as then we gave them a bit more freedom to wander around together. The beach was decent too with plenty of shade.
Final Thoughts
I definitely enjoyed our week at Yellowstone Lake State Park. I wouldn’t mind camping there again. Wisconsin is full of beautiful state parks and it was nice to check out someplace new.
